The Times Online in US Newspaper Resource Directory

The Times is a direct descendant of many of Beaver Countys newspapers, starting with the Minerva, first published Nov. 4, 1807, and generally believed to have been the countys first newspaper. The roots of the present newspaper, however, can be more directly traced to the Beaver Times, founded by Michael Weyland and published from 1851 to 1859 when the name changed to and remained the Beaver Argus until 1909. It was changed again to The Daily Times, which was published from 1909 to 1946 and operated by John L. Stewart and E.L. Freeland. The paper was sold in 1946 to the father of the presentday Times, S.W. Calkins. Calkins combined the Daily Times with the Aliquippa Gazette, which he acquired in 1943.
